First Time Mommy Problems
Here are some things that I have found challenging in my new life as a mom. If you are experiencing these things too, you are not alone!
1. Breastfeeding
Let me tell you almost every breastfeeding mother's pet peeve: that nobody told them how hard it would be!! Cracked and bleeding nipples, mastitis and yeast, abrasions, pain worse than labour are all complaints I see ON THE REGULAR! Is it any wonder why some people choose not to breastfeed?
But boy was it ever worth persevering in.
P.S. I also hate feeling obliged to cover or people pestering me to be "modest" when breastfeeding is just feeding a little human some food. (See my post on Breastfeeding Women in History.)
2. Night feedings
Well, duh. No one likes having their sleep interrupted. I've actually had it better than most with my good little sleeper but every so often I take a moment of silence to remember all those Mommas that are up all night with their little ones.
3. Keeping up with all the info about keeping your baby healthy and safe.
Product recalls, safe sleep debates, contradicting do's and don'ts, and making sure you don't accidentally kill your child because you didn't read the manual properly. (I'm not an overly anxious mom but I do receive contradictory information and I did once put my baby in danger before another mom corrected me, telling me my baby shouldn't be chin-to-chest in his swing at that young an age.)
4. Being a full-time cuddler/entertainer and getting nothing done all day
My baby cries when I put him down, cries when I go to the bathroom, cries when I walk out of the room, cries when he's tired of the mat or the floor seat or the swing which give me five minute windows to have some breakfast...
He is heavy to carry around and I can't do everything one handed.
And he isn't a fan of me babywearing (sad face).
5. Finding clothes that fit him.
Every load of laundry is too small for him by the time it comes out of the dryer, and it isn't because it shrank in the dryer.
6. Wiggly little "Kicky"
One of our friends calls our baby "Kicky". I'll let you imagine why. We could also aptly call him "Flaily". Either way, it's exhausting holding him. Even on my lap while sitting down. Exhausting.
And "just wait 'til he's crawling/running!" doesn't exactly mesh with the oft-heard "it gets easier"!!
7. Daddy. ('nuff said)
P.S. He's a great dad actually ❤️
